U5 Program
The U5 program consists of one day per week of the Jamboree One with one program. Jamboree One with One is the combination of two different formats that, put together, provides the best possible introduction to soccer for our youngest players. In AYSO soccer, a jamboree means that groups are formed on a weekly basis depending on how many players attend a given session. One with One refers to the concept that each player will have a parent (or other adult) working with them on the field. This program is different from the U6 program, where head coaches are assigned and formal practices and games take place. The U5 program is geared to introduce parents and children to soccer in a more informal setting, letting them have the fun experience without the pressure of a normal game experience. Each session will be led by a Master Coach, who will introduce a game/activity that will apply a certain skill or part of the game, They will explain and demonstrate to help parents and players understand the activity. Each pair (player/parent) will then attempt the activity while the Master Coach circulates between pairs providing specific help or suggestions so that the activities are performed as intended. Then the Master Coach will bring the parents and players back together as a group and recap what was done, and introduce the next game/activity. Each Jamboree session
will end with a 20 minute short-sided game (3v3). During the game, one
parent from each group will be assigned to act as the game supervisors of
the week. These parents will be requested to keep the game going.
Most importantly, the players should be allowed to play without coaching
or teaching as this experience is designed to expose them to soccer, not
to begin developing them. The goal is to allow the players to enjoy
the activity, and let the game be the teacher!
Each player will receive a uniform, since it is fun to get dressed up for "the big game". Each player will need to bring a #3 soccer ball, shin guards, and appropriate shoes (tennis shoes or soccer shoes are fine) to every session, as well as bring a bottle of water for break-time. At this age there is no need to spend a lot of money on soccer equipment. Each player will need to be accompanied by at least one parent.
Parents should come dressed appropriately to help their player practice the
skills during each training activity.
Each session will last one hour and fifteen minutes (75 minutes), and be scheduled as follows: 15 MINUTES Days activity explanation by the Master Coach for all helpers 10 MINUTES Training Group formation (assign players to groups) 20 MINUTES Training Activities (no more than two per session) 10 MINUTES Game organizing and water break 20 MINUTES 3 v 3 game played in two halves of 10 minutes each with a short quarter break All parents are encouraged to cheer positively and refrain from "coaching" (giving directions) from the sideline. The following Monday from 6:00 pm - 7:15 pm at Clinton River Fields The schedule includes 12 sessions (6 in the fall and 6 in the spring). Re-schedules will be made only in cases of severe weather. Like all our other AYSO age divisions, re-schedules will not occur for any other reason. You are encouraged to come to the field for each session, as the determination to cancel a session will be based on the weather at the field location, as opposed to weather near your home. A U5 Program session will automatically be cancelled if a tornado watch or warning is in effect for Macomb County within 30 minutes prior to session start time. For example, if a tornado watch or warning for Macomb County expires at 1:30 pm, and the U5 session is scheduled to start at 2:00 pm, the session will occur. Any information updates will be posted on the home page of this website.
