Soccer Conduct
Parents, spectators, coaches, and referees have responsibilities and obligations to
keep our all-volunteer soccer program a fun sport for all. With this in mind, please
observe the following:
- Cheer positively for the things you like and encourage your team. Have fun!
- Never make derogatory remarks of any player, parent, coach, or official.
- Please leave any sideline coaching to the coach. Spectators frequently yell
instructions to the players - these instructions often contradict those of the coach and
only confuse the players.
- Our referees, like all AYSO officials, are volunteers, not professionals. While their
decisions may not always be agreeable to all participants and spectators, they are final.
No useful purpose is served by shouting disagreement or derogatory remarks. Referees can
caution players (showing a yellow card) and dismiss players from the game (showing a red
card) for misconduct. Referees can also caution and dismiss coaches, and can even
terminate the game. Deliberate fouls, or abusive words and disrespect on the part of
players, coaches, or spectators can lead to these actions.
- Every year we have many new referees and coaches. Each is volunteering to do a difficult
job, and mistakes inevitably occur. Heckling the referees or the coach is totally
unwarranted. Serious problems involving coaches or referees should be brought to the
attention of the Regional Commissioner after the game in writing.
- For the safety of all, coaches and spectators must stand at least 3 yards from the
sideline. No one is allowed behind the goal or within 18 yards of the goal-line on either
side of the field. Coaches and referees are asked to enforce this condition.
- No smoking or alcoholic beverages are allowed at games or practices.
- Water is the only recommended half-time refreshment.
- All players present and in proper uniform at the start of the game play at least half of
the game.
- It is everyone's responsibility to encourage the proper use of fields and to keep them
clean and free from litter. If you see anyone misusing the facilities (climbing fences,
playing ball near windows, throwing litter on the field, etc.), please bring the matter to
the attention of a coach, referee, or AYSO official.
- There is absolutely no parking on playpads near schools. Park only in parking areas of
schools and fields.

Proper Dress for Scheduled Games
- Each player must wear:
- the issued jersey (tucked in), shorts, and socks (pulled up);
- shin-guards (under socks);
- regulation soccer shoes, gym shoes, or sneakers (with or without rubber cleats). Soccer
shoes with cleats are strongly recommended for all games and practices. Screw-in cleats
must be in good condition. Metal cleats and toe cleats are not allowed.
- Players may not wear anything that is dangerous to any player. This includes, but is not
limited to: splints, casts, metal bracelets, rings, earrings, wristwatches, and hair
barrettes. The referee's decision on the legality of player apparel is final
- Prescription eyeglasses must be secured. Sunglasses are not permitted. Only goalkeepers
may wear billed baseball caps.
- The uniform should be worn only for regularly scheduled league games and official
practice games.
- Additional clothing, such as shirts and long pants, may not be worn over the uniform while
a player is participating in a game. Sweatshirts and sweatpants or "bicycle
shorts" may be worn under the uniform in cold or wet weather if their color
matches the uniform. Players not attired in proper uniform may not be allowed to play
until properly dressed.

Cancellation of Games
The general policy is that scheduled games are played, "rain or shine".
In the event of rain, teams should assume that games will be played, and proceed
to the field, unless otherwise notified by the coach. Inclement weather or poor
field conditions may necessitate from time to time the canceling of games. Any
such cancellation will be made at the discretion of the Regional Commissioner of
the Safety Director as early as practical before the game time. Games
are not canceled because of rain if the field is still in playable condition. A wet or
muddy field is not sufficient reason to cancel a game.
All Region 190 games are
cancelled if a tornado watch or warning is in effect for Macomb County within
30 minutes prior to game time. For example, if a tornado watch or warning
for Macomb County expires at 6:00 pm, and the game is scheduled to start at 6:30
pm, the game will be played.
The only person authorized to cancel a game on the field is the
referee scheduled for that game after she/he personally inspects the field. Coaches cannot cancel
the game, even by mutual consent. Games will be halted by the referee if there is
lightning in the sky. All players and spectators should leave the field. The referee may
ask that they remain in their vehicles if it looks possible that the game could be
restarted in a reasonable time.
All games that are canceled for any reason must be rescheduled by the
league. Both coaches must call the Regional Coach Administrator within 2
days of the canceled game. The number to call is 586-739-6403. Please provide the team name and number, date and time of canceled game, and the
field location.
