Volunteering to Coach
Coaching volunteers for AYSO come from the parental ranks. That's
right! There is no separate organization that provides coaches for our
kids - it is us! Each season we look for motivated people who want to
spend more time with their kids in a positive sports environment as part of
one of the best youth programs in America. We support these
individuals with the tools and training necessary to be successful in their
position. What does it take to be a coach or assistant coach?
- Complete the online volunteer registration process at
www.eayso.org.
- Print out and sign two copies of the completed volunteer form.
- Present the completed and signed copies of the volunteer
registration form, along with your drivers license or other state
identification, to the Child & Volunteer Protection Advocate or any
other Region 190 Board Member for identification confirmation. Or,
mail the completed and signed forms, along with a copy of your drivers
license, to"
39319 Bella Vista Drive
Sterling Heights, MI 48313
Your drivers license will be used to verify your identification against
the completed volunteer registration form, and will then be shredded.
- Once your identification has been verified, your registration
process will be completed for your online and you will be officially
eligible to coach. Your volunteer form may be audited by AYSO
National, and subject to a back ground check. AYSO National
reserves the right to reject volunteers based on the outcome of this
background check.
- You will need to be authorized by the Region 190 Board to perform
the duties of the position for which you have volunteered. This is
typically communicated from the Regional Coach Administrator (or
Regional Commissioner) on behalf of the Region 190 Board.
- You will be required to take mandatory Coaches Safe Haven Training
(see the "Coach Training" section below). This is required one
time only for all coaching volunteers. This can either be
taken online (once the volunteer registration process is complete) or at
a Coaches Clinic. There is no cost for this training.
- You will be required to be certified to coach for the appropriate
age division. This training is also provided free of charge from
Region 190. Review the "Calendar" page of this website for
upcoming dates, or contact the Regional Coach Administrator by visiting
the "Board" page of this website.
The next time you wonder why you have not yet been contacted by your
team's coach, please consider that our coaches all have jobs,
families, other children, vacations, and other activities just like us.
If you would like to become a Region 190 coach or assistant coach, please
complete a volunteer form online or at the next available registration
session, or contact the Regional Coach Administrator by visiting the "Board"
page of this website.

Coach Training
Coaches Clinics
AYSO Region 190 provides coaching clinics each year to provide new
coaches with the tools necessary to complete their job. For currently
scheduled referee training, please see the Calendar section of our website.
Safe Haven Training - Coaches
It is a requirement of AYSO National that all AYSO coaches (including
assistant coaches) be certified according to the AYSO Safe Haven Program.
This program is designed to address the growing need for child and volunteer
protection. The certification program provides every volunteer with
the highest level of protection t the lowest possible cost, and offers the
hope that every AYSO child will be treated with understanding, compassion,
and respect.
AYSO requires all its volunteers to complete, sign, and submit a
Volunteer Application form each year, and to act within their job
descriptions, and the scope of AYSO Policies, Procedures, and Guidelines.
Coach-specific Safe Haven Training can be completed by attending one of
the coaching clinics provided by AYSO Region 190, or by completing the
training online at
www.aysotraining.org. To take training online, you must know your
eAYSO ID number. This ID number can be obtained from the following:
- If you have previously ever been a registered volunteer in AYSO
Region 190, contact the Child & Volunteer Protection
Advocate (CVPA) by visiting the Board section of this website
- If you have never submitted a Volunteer Application before, you need
to do this by either attending a Region 190 registration session and
completing the forms manually, or complete the forms online at
www.eayso.org. When you’ve
entered all the requested information, print out at least two copies of
the application, sign and date each one, then submit them to the CPVA.
Once your application is processed, the CPVA can provide you with your
the eAYSO ID number or you can send an email request to
joanbuffandeau@ayso.org, and they can forward it to you. Please include
our number (Region 190) in your request. New registration data is
uploaded to the training site within 48 hours following activation by our
region. As a result you may have to wait a day or two to take the course.

Player Replacement
Prior to the start of each session we need to contact our parents and
make sure that all our players will be returning to play on our teams. In
the event that a player will not be participating, here are the required
steps to getting a replacement player.
- Contact the parent to verify that the player will not be
participating on the team
- Make arrangements to get the uniform back (this is crucial, as the
coach is responsible for the uniform; they do not belong to the player
until the end of the season!)
- Send the player's registration form, and a request for a new player,
to the Regional Registrar:
Registrar AYSO Region 190
8562 Charles Court
Sterling Heights MI 48312
- Once the Regional Registrar receives the registration form in the
mail, a review of the wait list will be performed to identify any
available candidates to fill the opening
- The Regional Registrar will notify the requesting coach of the
availability of any players to fill the requested position
- The Regional Registrar will send the new player registration form to
the requesting coach
- The requesting coach will contact the new player and make
arrangements to provide the uniform, practice and game schedules, and
other team information
Please note that candidates to fill specific age division openings will
be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis to ensure Balanced Teams.
However, the Regional Registrar will take into account any team with a
greater need (a team that is down more players) when allocating available
players from the wait list. Please note that at no time do we assign players
to teams based on location or relationship (except in the U6 age division).
All participants interested in playing soccer in AYSO Region 190 after
registration has closed must submit their name to the wait list on our
website at www.ayso190.org.
